Competition Policy

Photography and videotaping are strictly prohibited and will result in disqualification. DRC/Video Judge will provide all video and photo services. Optional additional UP Media packages available. Content creation of any kind is prohibited in both the theatre and backstage.

Dancers must be ready to perform at least 60 minutes prior to their scheduled time.

Parents are not permitted backstage at any time.

Dancers may not compete more than once in the same category.

Explicit music, swearing, or inappropriate choreography will result in immediate disqualification.

If a dancer forgets their routine, they may perform again, but only with permission from stage management.

Parents may not approach the judges at any point during the event.

Up Dance Competition is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Parents and teachers are responsible for the safety and supervision of their dancers. Dancers must not be left unattended or dropped off without an accompanying adult.

Vandalism to any property will result in disqualification.

No food or drink is permitted inside the theatres.

All judges’ decisions are final.

To qualify as a small studio, entries must not exceed 100 routines, and/or the studio must not have more than 55 individual dancers entered.

In the event of an injury preventing a dancer from competing, a doctor’s note must be submitted to our office at least one week before the event. Any refunds issued will be at the sole discretion of the director.

Up Dance Competition reserves the right to make last-minute changes to the schedule or event due to unforeseen circumstances.

Up Dance Competition reserves the right to add or subtract days or cancel a competition if necessary.

Up Dance Competition reserves the right to adjust the amount of cash awards based on the number of entries at each location.

All entry fees must be paid in full no later than March 1. Entries with outstanding balances after this deadline may be removed from the competition without guarantee of reinstatement. Any studio that withdraws on or after March 1 remains financially liable for total entry fees, regardless of participation.

Competition Guidelines
Novice Solo
A dancer who’s first time competing in a solo dance ‘the inaugural year’. The dancer may have previously competed in groups and lines.
Novice Duet/Trio
All dancers must be novice and never have competed in a Duet/Trio. May have competed in a group or line.
Novice Groups/Lines/Productions
At least 75% of dancers must be novice.
Part-Time Solo
A dancer that trains for around 6 t0 9 hours per week. A novice dancer may compete in the part time division at the studio director's discretion.
Part-Time Duet/Trio
All dancers must be trained around 6 to 9 hours per week.
Part-Time Groups/Lines/Productions
At least 75% of dancers must be part time dancers and train 6 to 9 hours or less per week.
Full-Time Solo
A dancer who trains for more than 9 hours per week and has previously competed in a solo.
Full-Time Duet/Trio
All dancers must train for at least 9 hours per week and have previously competed. A novice dancer may compete in this division at the studio director's discretion.
Full-Time Groups/Lines/Productions
At least 75% of dancers should be trained for more than 6 hours per week.
